Friday, September 16th. 7 P.M. at Almagre Venue. For venue information go to the Ticket and Concert Info page.

This EPIC season opener titled Ukrainian Song, is true to the spirit of EPIC that it is a theme of symbolism more than literal meaning. Yes, this concert contains some Ukrainian music, but the title is more than this. You'll find that the music selections for this concert will evoke deep and honest feelings that people experience during times of struggle, galvanization, but also cultural connection and even celebration.

And we are so pleased to welcome Baritone Robert Sims, who is a specialist in spirituals and American songs and has appeared on PBS. We'll also have the pleasure of hearing Pianist Angelina Gadeliya, who regularly performs at Carnegie Hall and is a specialist in Ukrainian music. They will join forces to perform a variety of American and Ukrainian music. And finally, our artistic director Sergei Vassiliev joins in for a Colorado premiere of a clarinet piece by Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk.

Ukrainian Song

  • “Sims knows how to merge European operatic grandeur with colloquial, all-American delivery. The ardor of his interpretation and plushness of his timbre, as well as his wholly convincing body language, made his performance a high point of the night."
